I've been talking to a hyundai dealer who is looking around for a GenCoupe that meets my desires. I told him I am also very interested in a VT, and I am in love with the matte paint.

He said they already received training for the matte paint and taking care of it. He said the VT's w/ matte paint will come with a 12 page manual on maintenance. He said it is a chore and a half to maintain the paint, so I should really think about what I'm getting myself into. Now... it is a dealer so he could be blowing smoke out of his ass. Can anyone confirm?

more old news.. more over exaggerated 'maintenance' night mares.. it is not going to be that hard to take care of, you will basically just never want to go to an automatic car wash (which you shouldn't with any car if you care about the finish) and use special soaps and glazes for matte paint..

The biggest thing you need to do is NOT rub to hard when trying to clean debris off, let the solvent do its work. by rubbing hard, you will cause a shiny spot.. which obviously is bad on matte paint.

What was said is true, however, care is going to be extra work, and a whole set of special products that will cost more than normal as I see it
Things that drop onto it will often need to be cleaned off the finish quickly like sap or bird poop or questionable fluids
Then comes the whole resale question, which I believe will lower the car's value even though you pay a premium to get it
The bottom line is, if you like it and want to spend all the extra money on the option and supplies, then get it
But don't think for a second it will be as easy to keep looking new as standard finishes
Good luck, I for one would never do a matte, but it's only up to you

A buddy of nine has matte on his Harley, and he says it is some extra work, even on a vehicle that is garage kept and only taken out on nice days. I was all set to go with it, but I live in Wisconsin, and this is going to be my everyday car.

i would also assume the dr. beasleys kit would last a few good washes/details..

also, if you use the glaze every couple of months in the kit, you should have to worry about washing it a lot less, just like when you wax a typical paint job and things rinse off easily without the need for as many good washes.
