Hi All,

I have been watching and searching the forums for the last few weeks/months, and I am unable to find any information about the custom tunes and/or the handheld tuner and where this is at.

I know a lot of people were working on this and it is something I am really interested in, however, the only site I can find that does custom tunes is Tork (damnfastdd). As this car is my daily driver, I don't feel comfortable sending my ECU overseas to be flashed at the moment.

Can anyone tell me what is happening in this space, as it seems the "Veloster Turbo ECU Tuning and Data Logging" Thread is dead and not a lot of updates this year..

Any assistance or information about tuning in Australia for this car without sending something overseas for a month would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Thanks -X- I do remember that, however, not in my state :) but regardless I am more interested in the handheld, as I have been doing track days with this VT, and the handheld is something I am interested in as I am datalogging on my tablet and having a hand held available for these days is something that would assist.

For a tune, we have loaner ECU's that we can send you before you send yours so that you are not without a car. As for a hand held, we are waiting on the development to be finished still. It is slowly getting closer though. Something to look forward to I suppose.

This may be an option. I only have Injen CAI installed, so would stage 0 or stage 1 be more appropriate? Also, once the order is placed, would you send the loaner first?

Technically speaking, a Stage 0 would be more appropriate for just that one mod. However, with the Stage 1 they'll ask you what mods you plan on doing and can tune for all of it. That way as you add each mod the ECU will be ready for it so you don't have to keep getting it retuned.

Ecu's can learn fuel trims and adapt through short term and long term fueling. You don't pre tune for modifications. Hence why tuning is called tuning. You going to start lifting spark advance before adding in higher octane fuel? No. How do you expect to tune a waste gate on free flowing exhaust components before they are on the car? Sure you can have moderate canned style tunes. However no company is going to tune your car for optimal safety and performance before they see how the car is reacting to modification. Also you do need a tune to realize safety and peace of mind. When ever you free up power in a car without tuning, means something is technically not right. Add a cat less down pipe to a car tuned for a stock one and what happens when the more aggressive wastegate settings for the stock down pipe cause boost spikes and you pop your motor? I Gather there is not very good error comp systems that handle under and over boost on these cars?

If this is true then explain bench tunes, please.
Bench tunes trim the safety margins, figure for better air flow, and more consistent fuel. Then they count on the ECU trimming to match the actual flow characteristics of the actual vehicle.

This is correct. And on bench tunes. Companies will look at a series of cars in all sorts of different elevations and climates. Then after datalogging they will go for more of an in the middle type of approach that will make all cars happy and still safe. Modification tuning for adding bolt ons like adjusting wastegate and adding timing will remain extremely conservative all cars are different. One car with a cat less down pipe using an x amount of wastegate duty could hit y amount of boost. Where as another care with exact same mods and the same x amount of waste gate duty could hit z amount of boost.

Our cars have limiters, and use target lambda system so the extra air is accounted for and lambda brought to target, tq limiters kick in and limit boost and timing if you have enough mods to bring it to the limiters. Overboost is very sensitive especially in the 2014 and 2015's spike to 17psi no matter how short or long you hit it and it goes into overboost mode. Even if you have a MBC and set the boost to 20 it wont let you. These cars are virtually idiot proof untuned. And our cars are a bit more complicated than just using the WG to control boost, fueling and timing play a part of how much boost the ecu wants to make.

There is deceleration fuel cut-off and a time value map in the ecu, we will be testing to see if we can make flames soon..lol
