If this has been brought up before, please let me know and feel free to lock the thread. That being said:

Does anyone have any thoughts on whether or not it would be possible to steal a VT (or any other Hyundai) without the proximity key? I won't pretend to know anything about stealing cars, but it seems like the amount of effort required would be substantial, and there'd be a lot of damage to the interior in the process.

On the same topic, has anyone had any experience with the Bluelink immobilizer feature (GPS tracking & remote shut down)?

The potential for theft may in fact be higher. As more cars use NFC for keying, we will begin to see the technology for scanning and cloning those signals improve. Granted this will require a bunch of steps and a bunch of development, but if people can hack into the NSA a doubt our key will provide much of a challenge once they decide to start.

they already have something that scans and clones the signal...

I have, not for my car though, but for work. Of course though when we got there the car was empty (doesn't lock them in like bait cars) but it works. After the car is processed it's returned to the owner (usually by the next day)

What's that process look like? I think I saw something about needing to have the police request the shutdown (I guess so parents don't do it to their kids?)

Our cars use RFID, not NFC - I think NFC would probably be more secure and configurable. I'm assuming with our keys, we're as susceptible to the same code copying as I've read about with passports, etc. But what if they don't have the code? Thoughts on getting the car started?

Tbh, we don't do it ourselves, dispatcher contacts them, same thing when we need cells phones tracked, idk about blue link but cell carriers have a dedicated number for law enforcement use

Not sure how well the keys work. I've left my car on for over 10 minutes & walked upstairs in my house to see if it auto-shuts down & NOPE. Supposidly the car needs to be moving away from the key for it to go into shutdown mode. What I want is a remote auto start on our Keys! Not through bluelink though...

Honestly, I think you could drive all the way to California without the FOB, just don't turn the car off

Car won't shut off even if you walk out of the car with the fob, you can drive it as far as you want it will not shut off till you turn it off. I've tested this out with my fathers car when he had the Sonata.

I'm not sure what the conditions are, but if you unlock the car from the fob, after about 30 seconds the doors lock again.

I have about 2k worth of tools in the back of my car at all times... Worse when I have client equipment. And our cars are cranky little bitches when they are cold. I would like to be able to lock her up while she is warming.

Remote start is only for the A/T right? That does at least have the feature where if you open the door (not sure how it would be unlocked) without the key, it shuts off. For remote start to work, windows have to be up and the car has to be locked and there has to be signal for bluelink. (Signal is where it gets tough, I've only had it work a handful of times)

Yeah, they don't do remote start for MT. I get that, I don't like it, but I get it. But at least let me be somewhat secure!

Feel secure??? FEEL SECURE? Funniest thing you've said so far... Don't forget your on earth lol... I love going to other states and seeing cops responding to 911 calls walking out of their car leaving it running and unlocked... In NY you do that and in 2 minutes you're chasing a stolen police cruiser
