Tapping in to the Rear View wiring

5874 Views 9 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Veets
Ok, so I have my iRadar and I am tired of having the power cord all over. I have a new plug that is about 6 or so inches long. I want to mount the radar detector just below and slightly left of the rear view and tap the ground and power wires that lead in to the mirror.

Question is.....

Anyone know exactly which wires I need to be plugging into?

Go to the Hyundai service site. There's a thread in the maintenance section. Has all the wiring diagrams and so on.

I have a question. Is there a way to activate the camera when driving forward? That would be super cool! Just have a switch to turn it on when you want.

Anything can be done. It is just a matter of who has already done it and if they have said how. All I think you should have to do is bypass the reverse switch that the HU is connected to. I don't have the back up camera so I can't attempt

Checking it out now. Thanks man.
So, digging up the past, has anyone done this?

My camera glitched the other day and stayed on for a mile or so while driving forward. It was pretty cool and I'd like to use a switch to turn that on, especially in heavy traffic.
I have a rear dash-cam plugged in the aux port. Not a "switch" per-se, but can be put on when needed through the head unit.

You're not able to use the Head Unit when the OEM cam is on screen right, so if you tap I feel like you'd permanently lose your HU??
That's why you put it on a switch.
Ideally, if I ever have the time I'd like to dig through the Windows CE stuff and see if there's a way to trigger the camera without the default program. I don't need the added lines and color correct which is what I think you will get when tapping into the reverse switch.

Also, does that line only effect the camera or would there be some other consequence of telling the car it's in reverse when it's not?
I'd love to find a way to get it to be on like that and record
