One morning I was on the highway and decided to floor it (transmission downshifted from 7th gear to 4th) and there was ZERO torque barely climbing any speed and then when it shifted to 5th it was the most aggressive shift I’ve ever felt in my life but 5th gear all the torque was there it’s like the tcu limited my torque to 100ft-lb in 4th which is when I needed the torque the most… best way to describe the shift is like a manual driver trying to race and forgets to lift off the throttle while shifting… I did end up recording some data on the obd2 scanner but these 2 photos of data is what I’m questioning because I do not know how to read tcu data.

Colder transmission temperature, engine coolant temperature, and oil temperature will not allow or command full power output. If engine temperature was 163°F then the other two were not likely close to where they needed to be.

Interesting to see what a Veloster has for TQ reduction setting. I have two different setting to show here on my 2018 Hyundai Kona 1.6T. AWD. One that is the original TCU software and the other is a OEM newly revised TSB for "jittering clutch engagement" that I said my clutch was doing and really was not as I knew they "polished" the shifting algorithm and I would gain "something " better then the crap coding I had for the last 4 years. I had that same kind of shifting you spoke of above most of the time when pushing it. It would do it with a stock tune, stage 1 and stage 2 tune. My stage 2 tune still has issues with what I think is still a hidden boost spike trip, if I do a fast WFO and don't roll it on.

The new OEM TCU tune is a JOY. The trans does what it suppose to do now. It also tighten up my clutch slipping, I think "pulling back more" on the shifting actuators to add pressure to the clutch in use. When I get a day off here ?? I will be testing adjusting the actuator rods by two negative direction turns, which pulls the clutch tighter by .5 mm. I was ready to cryo a new clutch and cryo DM flywheel anyway so I will see if the computer will see the adjustment and null my adjustment move. I have just a micro tad of slip still, but way better then it was before the OEM TSB flash. A gift form the Hyundai gods as my car original TCU coding HATED any form of high performance driving. 75% better. I would love to get the i20 N file loaded into my TCU to see if that could bring it up to 95% better. Ha ha.

First image is the 4 year old TCU settings. Second is the 2022 year date OEM new to me 6 days ago. The new OEM TCU file has a 5 ft lbs reduction. You can see my cars mods in my signature link.
