Hi All, new Aussie poster in love with the Veloster Turbo!

So I took a auto out yesterday (prob buy the manual but the wife wanted to drive and she can't drive manual yet) and I loved it!!!!
I drive a Fairmont at the moment and the difference in power was a lot less, they told me to take it out on the freeway so I did, they then said give it to it a bit, there is no cameras on this bit, so I overtook a car going from 100 to 125 so smoothly and easy I was very surprised, I expected it to take a bit to get into it's stride.

I reckon this is what I will buy, I have liked it over the others I have test driven.

The only thing holding me back is price at the moment, $35-36k drive away is qouted on the site which is a little out of my range so i will have to wait a little to A. save some cash so I'm borrowing less and B. wait for the prive to come down a little, I know the Drive away cost is not what I would pay, but being so new I don't think there would be much bargaining room yet.

So jealous of you that have them.

Any one know if these will drop at end of year due to being 2012 plated cars?

Cheers

HoLy CoW, Batman! Guess cars are cheaper over here. And I thought they are expensive in Germany, sheesh....
Maybe the cost of living is just overall more expensive in the Outback down under?!? I heard that people make pretty good money though, from the pizza delivery guy to the construction worker and on up. Any truth to this?

Hey Ret I'm in Australia so dif costs :) and cars are expensive here unfortuanately.

VeeTee, as for wages, it really depends, yeah we may do ok in wages but everything over here is more expensive ie when i was in the US I paid $45 for a pair of Adidas Samba shoes, over her 120-145.

The Drive away cost off their site is $35,500ish for a manual (which is what you guys call full package I think, ours has sat nav and sunroof etc standard)

You think thats expensive, for the turbo the poor saps in New Zealand be paying close to 50k!!!!!!!!!!

Everything is cheaper in the US. I went there on holidays for 6 weeks earlier this year with friends, I could easily live there earning half of what I am living on here. Food for starters was so cheap why would you cook? And the cheap stuff was reasonable quality too. Phone credit, $40 for unlimited calls with t-mobile! our closest plan with Telstra is $129! Fuel was amazingly cheap, in Orlando we were paying about $3,20-3,40 / gallon. In AUS at the time it was $1.60/L, thats the equiv of $6 / gallon! (On a side not, and a little off topic, tipping made the experience even better, because the people serving wanted their jobs, and had to put some effort in to get paid. Over here, if people don't want to work they don't have to the government will pay they to stay home and look for work - in fact, a couple with 2 or 3 kids would make more money to stay home on unemployment then to go work for a moderate wage).

Bender, what model fairmont do you have?

I have a EF so a older model but it still goes pretty well.

I know I would not pay the 35k asking price, I'd like to think I could get them down a few thousand. What sort of figure did you pay FFEEkY? (if you don't mind answering :p ) I can pay a 30k loan off much easier so need to get them down a bit and save a bit, it would be good to know what I'm sort of aiming at.

I'll prob be purchasing closer to xmas so I hope they have them on sale and then I can get some more off for 2012 plated car or may be best to wait until Jan.

Given the current back log in orders and such a high demand, I don't think dealers will be shaving $000's of the price. Look at the other Hyundai models and pricing. They are excellent value already.

Bender, I'm sorry to say but they cut you a deal with that pricing there (could be cheaper for rego costs in Melbourne compared to Queensland though) as our cars up here are a bit more expensive.

Alternatively if you want to come up for a car I can sell you one :p

Would it be cheaper to buy it in the US and have the car delivered ? or is that against some sort of law

I know you can do it with older cars, not sure on newer, I'm sure there would be ridiculous taxes involved in doing it on a new car.

And then I'd need to have it converted to Right hand drive so it would not be cheaper in the long run.

Unless it is a 'show car' or the like, something that will not get driven every day, there are massive import duties to pay (can be up to 50% of the value you paid for the car) then there is the costs involved with switching from left to right hand drive.

If your importing an old classic mustang etc (the right model in good condition can fetch upwards of $250,000 over here) then it is worth it.

I put a deposit on & ordered my MT Stormtrooper (with prestige mats) from NSW Central Coast dealer yesterday & they've estimated a delivery date of Jan 2013 & the best price I could get given the demand & supply issues at the moment was $35,200 drive away. I'm REALLY hoping that they find me one sooner than January ;-)

I've had set back after set back at the moment so I have not even purchased which I was hoping to do 3 weeks ago :(

There is a Battleship M/T in Tas for $35,000 on carsales geez I'm tempted, about $500 to have get it back on the boat. Seems to be a few in QLD in M/T Battleship.

There was a white M/T here in VIC BeX I was offered it a few weeks ago.

Best offer I have had is $36,200 at the moment

Bender that Battleship in TAS for $35,000 (+$500 transport) sounds a pretty reasonable deal, is it ex-demo or new?? Hmmmm, I wonder if that White MT is still around down there... It so wouldn't bother me to fly to Melb & drive back to get into one sooner!

There is a Matte grey for $34,990 says Dealer:brand new 5 hours west of Sydney, send them a email

The one I emailed about in Vic was a dealership in ballarat, So I think a lot of country places use Carsales. I'd just always confirm its a proper dealership.
