in my opinion, it's been the worst part of my VT so far. i love the actual system in the dash, but as far as the actual directions the nav gives, its horrible. i've tried a couple different settings, shortest, quickest..etc... but its still bad. it will EVENTUALLY get me to where im going, but usually in the worst way possible.

anyone else had any issues with it? i did a quick search on here and didn't find much.. but i can't be the only one. any suggestions on how to get it working better?

I will say I've had no problems .. till this weekend.. coming back from SFR it was trying to take me the dumbest way possible

Yep, it's almost like its gotten progressively dummer on me. The other day it was telling me to go to my house by hopping off the freeway 3 exits too early. would have added like 10 min extra to my drive. It's a minor annoyance day to day driving, but at times when I actually need it, I can't really count on it. My Garmin I have in my Mazda CX7 is waaaay better.

Just wait, the NAV gets dumber when you don't pay for the data service.

Apparently a fair amount of the data comes from the service. When I zoom in and out it does not show the local streets or their names anymore.

If I type in "Target" it does not sort the results by the closest one. And voice NAV is no longer available.

The stock NAV is only good for basic navigation when I am out of range of cell towers.

If Hyundai comes out with a NAV software upgrade that brings it up to the Bing standard I would be willing to pay maybe $5 a month.

Well that's is the dumbest thing I ever heard. I have a Dodge Nitro I plan on selling it to get the VT, but knowing about the nav now forget it. I never paid anything for service for my Nitro and It's been rated one of the best nav's out there. One thing I love and would never live without is the nav. I've also never had to pay anything when using my navigation, maybe it's a hard drive, but thats ok by me.It always takes where I want to go and the map is perfect for telling where the streets are. That's just very disappointing. You should not have to pay for any type of service for the nav! We pay enough for the cars we buy.

OK first of all Raptor08, your Turbo is GORGEOUS! Who cares how the Nav works?! I jest of course. Seriously though, I already responded to my Hyundai Owner Survey about my disappointment with the Nav System. It's pretty, but dumb (insert Jessica Simpson joke here). Luckily I don't depend on Nav so it's not a huge issue for me but yes, paying extra seems to be the only way to get the best of any data-based service these days...cable, cell, SiriusXM...

The problem with all NAVs is that they aren't Google Maps. Once you get used to Google Maps nothing else can compare. The VT NAV is as equally bad as Garmin, Ford's MyTouch and every other car's stock NAV.

If NAV is the defining factor of which car you buy then the VT is probably not for you.

When I'm in a strange town and/or out of cell range the VT's NAV does the trick. Other than that I rely on Google Maps on my Android. And that works for me.

Knew my way and it was a straight highway and a left onto another straight highway but the nav took me on 8 different roads turning left then right over and over. I hope I don't ever need to rely on it.

I've never had any problems with routing or directions - just clunky interface and POI information. And it seems to pull some local zoomed-in data over BlueLink - which you lose without the data pla,

I have to agree. Most SatNav systems will let you some at some time or other.

Again .. total agreement, This is the best feature for me, plus it's mounted in the dash and easy to read.

Agree and disagree. With sat traffic service, it works as desired 99% of the time. Of course, when it messes up, it really messes up. I am ok with paying $5/mo for the updates. I was not OK with the costs for the blulink service since the features I wanted are across multiple plans.

Sorry but do you guys have to pay to have the NAV updated by the dealer?

Not yet. But at some point I expect to pay for a new NAV DVD with the updated street maps on it. I don't think the dealer has to be involved in that though.

The documentation has info on the vendor for map updates. I do not recall who it is but I do recall the price being about $100 for the update. I last checked in September and there were no updates at that time.
