I own a BR VT/AT and I am a newbie to mods ... even tinting :)

1. How best to tint the vehicle - rear, side and what %
2. How do I shop for a good tinting place - would a cheaper place have less quality ?
3. How much on an average would I be paying to get it tinted for the VT ?

Appreciate your answers. Thanks.

Ah ok, I ask cause it doesn't show on your profile. I did 35% all around for $130 lifetime warranty. Did it with a guy at the dealer. He does all the cars sold at the dealer. I love how it came out. Some people are doing 30 front and 20 or 15 in the rear. But I don't know if that would look nice. Make sure they have a good warranty, and that it is high quality. The film he used on mine is a thick 3-plies film. Don't really know the technicalities of it though. I could hook you up if you were down hear in Miami.

Thanks vtlover67. I changed my profile to reflect my location.

One question though - I have heard some shops screw it up sometimes. How hard would it be to remove the tint or re-tint ?

This is true, but it has never happened to me, in all the cars I have ever had. Usually that happens with someone who has no experience in tinting. To take off the sides is not that bad; the rear is where it gets hairy since you have the defroster and antenna wires on the glass. You know that those are some times glued to the inside of the glass and taking off the tints could damage them. The rear window in the VT is the worst to install, according to the guy that did mine. Ask the installer if he has done Velosters before, and how many. Maybe your local deal has a guy to install them. Just make sure you get a good warranty in writing like me. Once you have them on, do not open your windows or turn on the rear defroster for at least 5 days. This way you know the tints are solidly attached.

vgun....in NC I believe that ALL the windows must be the legal 35%. When I had my 02 Cougar I only had my two door windows at legal tint and the rest a couple shades darker and never had any problems. If you do decide to do all but your door windows 35%, make sure you know someone/somewhere that will pass you car come inspection time. Sometimes you can give them a $20 bill to pass you.....sometimes.

I think I will stay within the legal limit... I really don't require a darker tint - just enough to hide the clear glass feeling. My only fear is to give it to a shop that screws it up. I am almost leaning towards not doing it for that reason (until enough dealers have experience with the VT)

In my state, we don't have to do vehicle inspections or anything like that. How risky would it be to go darker than the legal limit? (32% , I believe is the limit). Suppose a cop pulls me over, will he be able to tell if its 25% or 35%?
Yes they can tell. And if I am not mistaken, they have devices to measure the %. Usually you can get away with it, but you never know when you get pulled over by a frustrated cop and all he wants to do is make your life miserable.

Back when I lived in So Fla, there was one town that actually carried razor blades and made people scrape off the front windows if they got pulled over with too dark of a tint on them. That would be a total bummer. Best to just keep it legal.

If you know a good body shop, those guys can probably tell you who has the best tints in town.

(1) 15% tint all around would be sufficient, but not on front windows...it depends on what the state laws says on the maximum you can go...in Toronto, Canada, the maximum is 35% so I went to 40% to be on the safe side.
(2) actually it depends on two things - what kind of tint ur getting (FormulaOne Pinnacle is the best one out there) and two who is doing them, u want someone is professional with plenty of experience.
(3) it varies on the location and reputation of shop to do...more rep has, the more likely they will charge fairly.

My tints comes with lifetime warranty so in general nothing can beat that...:)
