top speed?

I shouldnt be asking, but I think most will explore at some point anyhow...

Anyone tried to find the max mph in thier VT yet? Is there an electronic governor?

I ask only because my last vehicle was a 2004 Ford Ranger 3.0 and it was electronically limited to 92 mph... which was a drag sometimes if you really needed to be somewhere fast. We do a lot of interstate travel around here.

Same for me..I stopped looking at the speedo after it passed 145 mph.

They are limited, John tried to get the limiter. Removed when I was at his shop but sadly it didn't work :( I think it made it to somewhere between 145-150 on his dyno before it cut out. The car was definitely still pulling strong until that point so im confident a tuned VT has more than 150 in it.

Where were you heading back to? I just came back from Denton and Ft Worth yesterday. Also, to add to this, my 2014 hit 148 before I let out. Might I add, with no problem lol.

Back to school at UT Arlington.

I was really surprised at how easily it got to those speeds. Once the engine stresses through the 70-100 mark it climbs in speed easy and steady at a constant rate almost. I also did about 120-130 around some slight bends and it handled it with no problem since the pavement was pretty smooth.

I feel you would have to force the car, jerking the steering wheel back and forth, to lose control or cause something tragic to happen. Still wish it wasn't so bouncy though. May invest in suspension before the exhaust.

The only limiter in the VT is a "rev limiter" which will keep the engine from tearing itself up.

In regards to speed, I doubt that the VT can get to the "rev limiter" in top gear. Someone

did the math and came up with over 180mph being the speed in top gear where the

engine would be approaching the "red line" which is some below to which the "rev limiter" is set.

I got 242.3 Kp/h sitting hard on the limiter on the long runway at Avalon Air Base with the wind straight at my ass.
We measured this on the GPS speed app on my Samsung S4 phone.

For the US guys 242.3 Kph = 150.56 Mph
My Veloster is auto trans and has done 10.000 Kms, it is at standard height with a rear devil wing.

Totally stock engine except for Turbo resonator delete and magnet removed from air box.
We are running the tires @ 40 Psi and using 5W-30 Valvoline Synpower oil with Genuine Hyundai Filter and Australian BP 95 Ron Octane fuel.

There were two people in the car mainly for balance and a 10Kg bag of kitty litter on each side of the rear floor for a bit extra weight.

Car handled reasonably up to 200Km, after that it became a fair bit floaty to 235Km then seemed to settle back down after that.
After lifting of the throttle @ 242.3 Kph the Car became very floaty and a bit scarey until it got back to 200Kph then applied the brakes to slow further.

Car defiantly needs lowering and a good front spliter to do this with any degree of safety.

Limiter for USA is 142, I don't care what anyone says, if you don't have a tune there is no way you are going faster than 142, I was bouncing off the speed limiter for a couple miles. 142 is all it will go to. Tunes remove the speed limiter :)

Question, did you measure that with a GPS or just off the speedometer, as the speedo on the Veloster is out a huge amount.
Just checked Our dyno it stops at 140, But yes the speedo will say more
My VT MT zooms up to 100mph pretty easily in the big highway rush hour free for all of Atlanta.

But going faster than that proves to be difficult for legal and safety reasons.

I've found a few spots on state roads where the road is "right" for higher speed runs. By right I mean a solid road where you can see way in to the distance with no crossing roads or driveways or anything that might endanger myself or anyone else. Those spots are extremely rare.

In my experience the VT runs in to a wall past 100mph and you start eating up a lot of road getting to 120mph. I now wonder if 5th gear might be better suited to getting up to those speeds because it keeps the turbo pumping.

It felt fine at 120mph. When my passenger went to take a picture I felt comfortable enough to take my hand off of the wheel. It was that solid feeling.
There are no US laws that make manufacturers put a speed limiter on any car.

There are no manufacturers that put speed limiters on their products except one Italian model that

limits it to 180mph.

There is no commercially viable reason to have a speed limiter on any car.

Finally, the chances are, you could attain a higher speed in fifth gear to red line,

and shifting to sixth would/could stop the acceleration and just maintain that speed.

I have yet to see how fast mine will go, although I do have it drop its panties every 30 miles or so.
I couldn't go faster than 120 pretune! Kept cutting power back! Whats with everyone saying its faster? Lol
I haven't tried to max it since my tune! But if the limiters are raised it will for sure be faster!
Yeah 120 mph is no sweat for a tuned VT. I once owned a Caddy that cut fuel around 110 mph. That's basically a speed limiter.

my a4 did the same thing
