OK, I was driving home last night on 95N cruising about 75mph in the fast lane. I see some bright HIDS coming fast so I move over one lane to let him pass me. The car pulls up right next to me and slows down and starts pacing me. I look over my left shoulder and see its a lowered down M3 looks like a 98 M3, I slow down to about 70 to look behind the car and see its an M3 and i can hear him downshift now. I am still cruising in 6th. So I slowly increase my pace to about 75 he still paces me sounds like hes in 3rd gear because his motor is whining pretty loud at this point. He starts jerking his car back and forth to egg me on and I just smile and keep cruising. After about a minute of this i say screw it and i floor it and hear his motor wind up before he shifts to fourth. I am pulling him by about a car as we reach 100, by about 110 he starts to pull me by half a car by 120 he lets go and and i cruise by him up to about 130 before i let go. I was pretty happy that the VT was able to hang with an M3, I know its an older one but they still run low 14s stock, don't know what their top-end is like. I never downshifted and I dont even have an intake yet so i was impressed with the little power it has. I have had some fast cars and trust me the VT feels slow as balls compared to my other cars but last night renewed my faith in the little VT that could :)

I can believe that when I hit 130 I was surprised how easy it was and it was still pulling pretty decent.

The VT's roll-on power is my favorite thing about it. Whether is the city, on the on-ramp or cruising on the highway it really responds by just flooring it.

My VT M/T is a little slow too when launching from a stop. Actually it feels fairly fast but I'm not going that much faster than surrounding traffic.

I had my first "race" last night with a late model Jag XJ12 just because I needed to get over in his lane and he wasn't in the mood. We took off from a red light and he kept with me at first but after running 2nd and 3rd hard I got about 6 car lengths on him and showed him my turbo badge.

lamo! show them the turbo badge huh~ i like it~

i tend to dance through traffic on my way home most nights and it seems i always find a taker that wants to play dancing with the slow pokes with me. Last week a Ford Explorer ecoboost decided to flex his turbo badge. I must say those explorers are no joke, they have some ponies. He had to teach him what a VT is on Atkins is like. This korean black belt is a traffic ninja!

There are a lot cars with more hp than the VT like an Altima 3.5 or the G37 - much less Audis, BMWs or Mercedes.

What none of them have is only 2,800lbs and a turbo that likes to spool quickly. The VTs light weight makes it accelerate well at speed and most cars take too long to downshift and weigh too much to accelerate quickly.

Over the years I have found that in order to be racy and blow past people on the road takes only a fairly fast car and the desire to get the jump on someone. Once you decide to get the jump on someone you are already making your hp as you pass them and the couple seconds they need to react is too long for them to catch up.

The VT is perfect for this type of "racing". Often I get itchy on the on-ramp and hammer 4th and blow past a row of faster cars. Sometimes one of them tries to catch me but by the time they do I'm already in 6th and cruising in traffic. My other favorite trick is when people are clogging up a lane I need to get in to and I just floor it and zip past the cars and twitch it over in front of the lead car.

I look in the manual and it says 3748 pounds.

I wish it was 2800 pounds - it would be fast as hell!!

I see that!!!!

Wonder why there is such a discrepancy, The tag on the door post says the same as the manual.

I myself thought it was outlandish.

The gross weight is the weight the car would weigh loaded to it's capacity. So the car itself weighs approximately 2800lbs. You can load it with approximately 1000lbs of cargo (including passengers) and that's where you get the gross weight of approximately 3800lbs.

I had fun with a late 90's Mustang on my last road trip. The Mustang was a bit of a beater but it had a big hood and exhaust. We were stuck in terrible traffic for a long while and we were both hating our clutches. My VT was getting the better of him during the few breaks in traffic because of the turbo and the suspension.

Then the traffic finally opened up on a several mile uphill stretch. He started out a fair amount back and I only went down to 5th but the VT was pulling hard. He caught me while I was doing 110 and pulled on by me with a nod. I asked my passenger if I should have gone down to 4th but he was just gripping that weird handle and not saying a word. 110 is way in to reckless driving and not worth losing your license or getting arrested so I let him go find the next highway patrol for me.

The VT can run with most any car I've come across at sane speeds. But it's no Corvette, Camaro, Mustang, 911, M3 etc.. But those real performance cars have their own weakness - they perform at speeds to great for the real world. For me the VT is the most fun against the German land yachts on the highway. Those bloated things are quite slow even if they have 400+ hp. I'll roll up on them and you can see their 7 speeds Getrags downshifting and they make a great sound but they go nowhere. They won't move out of the fast lane. I don't even have to take it out of 6th to pass them on the right.
