Hello VT forum new six-two year old kid on the block
I purchased my VT in October. When I accelerate second through fifth gear, I'm experiencing turbo lag, hesitation or spluttering. I'm wondering whether anyone else experiencing the same thing. It occurs when you reach 3000 to 4000 rpm. I've taken my car in three times to the service center.

Early on I noticed what seemed like what you describe. After breakin it seemed to stop. While it was happening I did disable the traction control and it seemed to lessen it some (not sure it really did or not, but it seemed to).

I think we all collectivley agree it is an engine management issue , and not something physical. We are all waiing on a tested flash to fix these issues. But..Of course...... you cant got to the dealer after doing that.

Mine did the surge/lag thing too when it was new. But now that it is broken in it still occasionally does it.

It doesn't do it when I'm just flooring it in a top gear anymore. It only does it when I'm flooring it and accelerating in low gears.

It may have something to do with Hyundai wanting to keep the drivetrain together and maintaining its warranty.

I'm having the same issue and I just passed 3K on the odo so way past break-in period and no improvement. I know at this point that the dealership will not have the experience to deal with this issue yet and as I don't see any negative issue overall, I'm waiting a bit before taking it back to be diagnosed. Has anyone noticed a good amount of "smoke" - for lack of a better word - under heavy acceleration from a dead stop? I've noticed this a couple of times now - I checked under the hood and didn't find anything amiss - so not sure what that issue is all about. I KNOW it's not tire smoke (lol)!

I've noticed some "chuggling" (which is a semi official word at GM for turbo surging, LOL)
when under lighter throttle and lower rpm, like the load is so low, it won't spool up the turbo smoothly
It seems like it is getting better as I get more miles (1100) but worse as the weather gets colder

where is the smoke coming from ?
The black smoke is due to a very rich conditon (hard accel, check your tail pipe tips for black soot)
Gasoline direct injection (like diesels) have a tendency to do this more than port injection
The government is considering mandating particulate filters on GDI cars due to this problem
I've worked with Diesel Particualte Filters design/operation for the last 6 years and it has cleaned them up a lot
But I hope it doesn't come to GDI

Now that my VT has 5,000 miles on it the turbo hesitation is gone - once it is warmed up. When it is cold there is a definite lack of power but it does not come in the form of hesitation.

It belches dry smoke more than ever now when I am really red-necking it.

The biggest difference is that I can roll it up to redline when I'm loitering around in a low gear without it hesitating or feeling bogged down.

Who has info on a tune for these cars? Company? Brand? details!
I have info, sfr is currently working on tuning the VT, my car was in their shop last weekend and they dynoed 22 whp and 33 wtrq on just testing to see if they could tune the car.. more gains are to be had, and they are anticipating a tune release around march. I will have more info once my car goes back down, I will also be working on a full bolt on tune with them in the future
