Hello,
so I have been working on changing the usb location from the current position in front of the shifter to
underneath the center console so I can have my phone in there and not have loose articles or cables strewn about the car.
I did this because I use the usb connection to play pandora throughout the iPod app in my iPhone.
I use to have an android which streamed the audio via bluetooth but would have connectivity issues so I switched to the iPhone and it connects flawlessly but
streams garbage thus I use the usb.
The problem is I have routed the cables but once I removed the usb housing I found this
Vehicle door Auto part Technology Finger Cable
Electronics Technology Electronic device Laptop Finger
Vehicle door Technology Electronic device Cable Auto part

It seems to be a proprietary connector of which it makes it extremely difficult to plug in the usb behind it
At this point I'm thinking of getting a 3.5 mm jack extender placing everything under the center console and deleting the left over hole in between the 12v plugs
or hopefully finding a splitter of some sort and maintaining the oem look
any thoughts or suggestions or knowledge on the connector

Interesting find.

Now I ask this, could it be possible that behind the head unit itself there is a USB in port where that cable does connect?

Maybe a hub or Y splitter could be connected there.

Now all of this is me just guessing as I have never seen the rear of the headunit.

That's not proprietary, that's just the way the USB cables are. That connector then plugs into the face plate and on the other side you get that slot that we all know and see on computers, etc. Looks like you need a 4pin to 'B' side connector. Something like this?

Wait, that won't work because you need the male side, not the female side. But you get the idea?

I don't know if a Y splitter or a hub would work. Whereas computers are designed to learn and adapt to multiple devices, the head unit runs on WindowsCE and may not have the design or horse power to run multiple USB devices.

Wow, completely flew over my head. Computer connectors.

So a standard four pin connector would work then?

Something like this..

Amazon.com: Adapter Cable, USB 2.0, IDC 5 Male (single row) to USB A Male (Used to connect devices designed to plug into USB motherboard header pins to an external USB 2.0 connector): Computers & Accessories

Cable Electronics accessory Electronic device Technology Data transfer cable

And from there a female to female USB cable..

I would be careful and make sure the + and - plus data cables are in the right place. You can't blow anything just connecting this to the car connector but you may if you plug into the USB port.
I would reconnect it to the socket in the panel and meter the two outside connectors for + / - power. Then plug this cable into it and see if they remain the same. If they do it should work

sorry for the hiatus but i have been super busy! anyway Well i tried connecting to the read of the usb interface module using different methods but nothing worked i ended just routing the cable to come from underneath the 12v power adapters and hooked it up to the usb and i still have my phone in the center console
from what i saw when i took it apart i would need a separate interface box so that the front usb would remain usable
its a work in progress
