I have a VT automatic. It's 3 months old/7000km, and the gas mileage is steadily worsening. Of course it has never achieved the advertised rate, but compared to what I had been getting since 1993 with my Suburban and Denali, I was quite happy. But now the best I can get is 7.4 L/100km or 38 CND mpg (32 US mpg).
I love my little VT- but I want the great gas mileage I was promised.
I was pleasantly surprised with Hyundai's rebate offer due to the slight over-statement of their gas mileage specifications. However, now I wonder if they made this negligible offer to cover-up their greatly exaggerated mileage specs.

Gas mileage is a fickle thing with my VT.

I can get 40+mpg pretty easily and regularly if I do 60mph on a flat road in top gear - I have an MT. That is better than advertised.

That is the end of the good news. If you use the ECO-Coach thing in the dash you will quickly figure out 2 things. That big flat nose is not efficient at 70+mph. And the biggest mileage suck, by far, is congested traffic. It will only take you a few stints in congested traffic to figure out that it can wipe out any decent mileage per tank rating.

Well there is some good news left. Driving it hard and mashing on the gas pedal all the time is actually not that bad for your mileage.

My mileage ranges between 22 and 25 mpg with mixed driving between congestion and 85+mph daily highway commutes. On road trips if I keep it around 70 mph I get 34 mpg. But typically I keep it closer to 85 mph with brief jaunts over 100 mph (it is the turbo model) and I get barely 30 mpg.

Overall, that is fine by me.

Seriously, you're crying about 32 mpg's? You probably should have bought a Nissan Leaf or Toyota Prius...:sorry:

Doing the math with (now) five tanks of gasoline I'm averaging a solid 29 mpg around the hood. Urban driving. Not too shabby but if you go by the dash report it's at 32 & better mpg. The cars computer is off quite a bit.

the computer is hit or miss.. I've had multiple tanks that were .5-.6 of but i've also had tanks that were 3-4 mpg off lol

My foot doesn't allow it either. That, and I do mostly 100% of my driving in city type driving, stop and go, so I'm seeing mpg's between 24 & 26.
which is right on advertised.. I mean my daily commute is like 80% city and i usually get around 28 mpg

on the second tank my gf drove my car she said she got 36 mpg according to the computer.. so that means thats roughly 33-36 mpg depending on how the computer felt that tank lol it's USUALLY .5-.7 off when i calculate it by hand. and she's not all highway she's probably 75-80% cruising at highway speeds but not really high. keeping in mind the last probably 8-10 miles are up a mountain.. I still don't get how peopple get crappy MPG lol
