Went for a test drive today in the Veloster Turbo. I'm planning on getting an Ultimate / Auto / Elite White / Blue Interior / Blue Interior Lights. I would of course have to wait for it since the cars seem to fly off of the lot. My questions are this:

1. Anyone married with a kid here? Is it easy getting them in the back? Easy to bonk their heads? I'm trying to sell my wife on this thing being safe and handling a car seat when the time comes.

2. Should I wait for the 2014s?

3. Should I test drive it with eco mode off?

4. Anyone with the blue interior lights find them distracting?

5. Anyone out there with something close to my config? If so what did you pay?

1. 2013 Hyundai Veloster Turbo: Will It Baby?

2. From what discussions have been here and on veloster.org, the 2014 model won't likely have many (if any) changes.

3. I stopped using eco mode and choose to drive in sport mode instead...eco doesn't really do anything

4. I don't have them in the VT, but I had color-changing light bars in my Scion. I actually find the lack of light in the footwells distracting now.

5. I have a base, auto - with discounts (motozuma & Hyundai circle) I paid $24k including the tax & title in CA

Good question.

1) I am married and zero kids so far (YES!!!) but we will have kids later on. I feel the VT will be more than enough for kids.

2) YES we have to wait for the 2014 to get what we want now lol I am glad I am not the only one though :D

4) I use to have blue interior lights before on a accord I use to have and it wasn't distracting. You get use to it. Like someone else said, after I totalled that car it was weird not having it anymore.

BTW How does the factory Blue interior lights work? are they on when the headlights are on? or do they have a switch?

I can only respond to two of the quesions.
2. You can be sure the 2014 model will be more expensive and I think will only have cosmetic changes (body color surrounds around the front fogs and rear reflectors .. that kinda thing).

4. Eco mode. I've never activated it so I assume it's off, but I have some questions:

Are there 3 types of driving style with the VT A/T .. ECO on, D, and S?
Below is from the driver's manual but the last bullet doesn't make sense to me. Does this mean the car will always start off in ECO mode .. I ask because mine doesn't (the light is never on unless I press the button),
• When the Active ECO button is pressed the ECO indicator (green) will illuminate to show that the Active ECO is operating.
• When the Active ECO is activated, it does not turn off even though the engine is restarted again. To turn off the system, press the active ECO button again.
• If Active ECO is turned off, it will return to the ECO mode.

I don't think they will cost that much more than the 2013. And I doubt anything will change. If anything changes it will be anything hyundai had to warranty to make it better.

You should test drive a 6speed, not just the automatic. The automatic is pretty bad :-/
And this is based on driving one for any period of time vs kicking the tires

I think it depends on what car you come from - A 2004 Scion xA with a 4 speed auto to the VT's 6 speed atuo has been a huge upgrade to my experience.

The AT is fine, but the MT is cooler. The MT is often a pain in rush hour traffic and I have found the MT difficult to drive with passengers and not having their heads bob back and forth.

As for the 2014 model, it is anybody's guess. However Hyundai/Kia has announced two 2014 cars with the identical 2013 VT drivetrain so it is likely that the 2014 VT will also have the identical drivetrain. Given how fast the VT's sold and how Hyundai is now pricing the Velosters it seems likely that the 2014 VT will be slightly more expensive. Why would they lower the price of their fastest selling car of all time?

Makes sense about the 2014s. I hope they make more ultimates in 2014. With how well the car sells I probably not going to have much negotiating power come numbers time unless I go at the end of the month or something.

I don't have rear seat passengers very often, but when I do they always seem to bonk their head getting in the back seat. Something about the angle of the roof. I've gotten in the habit of warning them when they open the door. After they get in there seems to be plenty of room back there as long as they are not too tall. I'm six foot and couldn't sit back there without my head hitting the glass roof.
