hey! as you can probably tell from the title, I am a newbie. I just got my veloster and am interested in doing some basic modding stuff, but i dont really know much about cars in general. Would changing out the air filter give a different sound? sorry for the dumb question!

In the oem airbox no.

Not a dumb question. It will change the sound. The question is, will you or anyone else be able to notice the difference? For the most part probably not.
If you want to do a simple mod to change the sound you can pull the snorkel off of the front of the airbox. If you have a resonator or something attached to the drivers side of the lower air box you can pull that off too. Add in a higher flowing filter and you will have a noticeable sound change.

perhaps a minute difference removing the snorkel. i've been snorkel and resonator free since 2014 just sounds like a boring car

Maybe I'm too old. I think the opened lower airbox and high flowing filter is the perfect amount of intake noise.
