I accidentally found this out myself a week or so ago.

Like you, I wasn't thrilled about the slop either - at first.

I figured that my windows worked fine like this and since the windows are surprisingly thin - the thinnest windows I have personally seen - they probably need a little slop to keep from getting in a bind when the chassis twists and/or from extreme temperatures.

I've owned a lot of old cars and sometimes power windows can be grumpy if there is a bind in the track or frame and that can burn out the motors or in the worse case lead to a shattered window.

Seems normal to me.
Now you should see how soppy and rattly the windows are on my '80 El-Camino. It has frameless glass (no tracks above the door line) and if you leave it half way down when you shut the door you'd swear either the door would fall off or the glass would drop. Very metallic sound.
