I am trading in a vehicle for the tax credit and signed an agreement for the trade, the financing, and total amount financed with car at MSRP. Knowing there isn't a lot of markup on these and saving over $1600 in tax with the credit, well I'm happy waiting it out. I just hope it's not FOREVER. I don't care if it's white or gray trimmed interior - I just want the Elite White, AT w/ Ultimate package. They got a look at their allocation in two weeks and no turbos coming and so it'll be another two weeks (or a month from now at the earliest) unless they can do a dealer trade and I'm not sure how that works but I can't imagine that happening.

Little off topic.. But what tax credit are you referring to?

That's horrible. I would be embarrassed to try and rip someone off by that much. Who would pay that much over mrsp?

The tax savings can be huge. In Texas we pay 6.25% sales tax on autos, so when trading in a vehicle and only having to pay the different in values is sometimes worth taking a bit less on your old vehicle.

Exactly Commandoe! I have a vehicle that they are giving me $18,000 for trade-in value. I owe on it, but that's irrelevant. They subtract what they're showing me on trade from what they're asking for theirs and I pay the tax on the difference. So if our tax rate is 8.7% and I'm buying a VT for $26,600 and getting $18,000 trade, then I will have to pay tax on the difference, or $8600 and that total tax would = $748 (rounding). Without the trade I would have to pay $2314 in taxes. Therefore, if I were to sell my trade-in privately, I would have to sell it for $18,000 + the tax savings I would have gotten had I traded it in $1,566 = $19,566. Sometimes it's best to not hassle with private sells unless you have customized and need to get your worth out of it cuz the dealer only books it out with factory installed options.

Hyundai : Veloster TURBO in Hyundai | eBay Motors

I'm embarrassed to say I live in the NW...talk about price gouging.
Another reason why I love Canada so much...in Canada, Hyundai dealership are not allowed to go over the MRSP no matter what. Second thing, we can order specific type of car we want...

Is it possible for Americans to cross the border and buy VT and come back to Canada ? Just wondering out loud.
