Hi NEVL666, just my thoughts. No, I haven't driven an auto VT, but I've driven a few cars over the years, and I'm hep to paddles. No, I can't tap my car into auto and ease back into the traffic, (we got tons of traffic in Sydney), because it's a manual. Silly question, wouldn't you say? As I said, to each their own.
That was kinda my point

I prefer manuals and I will always prefer them. When I am older and live in a city I will probably get a second auto car for traffic, but I will take the manual more lol

I have an Auto they drive much better than the manuals and are mush quicker off the mark and far better in city driving.
I have not driven an auto VT, but I have a hard time believing that they are quicker (stock v stock) than a manual.

The remote start is not something that interests me. Idling to warm up is not good for an engine.

Also… How much more does the auto cost? If I recall correctly it was ~$1200.

This thread makes me want to go drive around an auto vt and floor it lol

I wish you were out this way, i'd let you take mine for a ride with a tune. added 50/tq in Sport mode will make you take notice, paddle shift will scare you.

We'd have a blast, I always wanted to go to SXSW. we should meet there some day
What's sxsw?

Is that the south by Southwest thing here in like Austin?

This is a classic argument that has many threads on here.

Yes, the AT is as fast as the MT in a straight drag race. That is pretty common in modern cars.

Yes, the MT is quicker in practice when stomping around town. While the MT does have some quirks with the throttle and lag and hesitation - especially when new - that completely goes away when you are heavy with the throttle and leave it in a low gear.

Yes, the MT is a pain in rush hour traffic. All MTs are a pain in rush hour traffic. The fact that it's a 6 speed doesn't help. The main thing that many MT owners complain about is the soft throttle and clutch. But in traffic that is a good thing.

MT's are cool. They have always been cool and in 2014 they are so rare that they are cooler than ever. When people walk up on my VT I'm trying to explain 200hp and 2,800lbs to them, but once they see the MT shifter they get it - it's a sports car. It is cool.

How and Why you can cream a Veloster M/T with your Auto/T Veloster..
1 The manual Veloster can not get the turbo to go into full boost sitting still. The best the manual can do is rev the crap out of it and dump the clutch. They cant do this very often or they fry the clutch and rip the engine mounts out.
2 Every time the Manual Veloster changes gear they have to lift off the throttle and lose all the turbo boost they have developed. The auto will shift under full throttle and retain all of its boost..

All we need to do in the auto veloster is to take full advantage of the manuals weakness..
1 Put the veloster auto into sports mode by pushing the shifter sideways after selecting Drive.
2 Hold you left foot firmly on the foot brake.
3 Raise the engine revs until the car really tries to drive away against the brake, This will spool up the turbo to about 60% of the cars maximum Horse Power. Hold brake firm and don't let it go yet.
4 When your ready to launch the car, slide your left foot off the brake and Mash the throttle to the floor and hold it there.
5 keep the throttle flat to the floor and let the sports mode auto change the gears when it feels the torque drop off.
6 Watch the manual Veloster become smaller in your rear view mirror..

This is the reason I picked the Veloster Auto Trans...

Wvery standard I race almost when they shift I pull hard

Here we go again.

The VT AT and MT have essentially the same 0-60 and 1/4 mile times.

Your lengthy explanation is just brake torquing and that has been around since the first common ATs in the 1940s. It does not make your car any faster and it is very hard on your transmission.

All ATs that aren't in a Ferrari or a Porsche are slushboxes and the VT AT is no exception. You always end up in too tall of a gear and when you need to make power in the city it just isn't there. When you press the throttle hard the AT has that lag when it has to decide if it has to downshift at all and especially more than 1 gear. Once the AT downshifts the motor revs but there is no turbo boost and you get a lot of commotion but very little acceleration.

All you have to do with any MT is stomp on the throttle hard and keep it in a low gear to have way more power on demand around town - especially with a small turbo motor.

The soft coupling of the motor through the torque converter will always make an AT just that - soft. And there is no way around that. Real sports and performance cars are MTs. That's just the way it is.

Test drove an AT and was meh. I wasn't going to buy a car JUST on looks alone so I asked if I could test drive a MT when one came in. Test drove a MT and never looked back.
