Veloster lag/hesitation?

So I just got myself a 2013 vitamin C. And had it for just about 5 days now. I had to park my Genesis Turbo'd 3.8 for the winter. I have about 150 kilometers on my new Veloster now, Canadian version. Everything seems ok, but allot of the times taking off from a light, the gas pedal has a disconnect or hesitation (for a couple secs) then because I step on it a little, I feel the turbo kick in, and it kinda surges forward, it's kinda annoying. But it doesn't happen all the time.

I have been reading a few of the threads about this, so I have already "removed the Magnet off the intake flap", and yes it is far better, if feels like a gained a few hp this way as well. But with my car only having 150 k on it... does anyone know if this is bad, since my engine is not even broken in yet?

And I am planning on a K and N Typhoon air intake, anyone know if this will remove the hesitation entirely?

Thxs for any help

Eco mode, I have manual. Don't think i can choose, with traction control off.

Thxs for the info, but how many miles did you have to put on it untill it was broken in?

Thxs Mtd, I see your location as ON, I am from AB, don't hold it against me though. Yeah not allot of Turbo'd 3.8's. It's an expensive/time consuming mod. But sure fun after.

I will have to really monitor, the Kms, I am enjoying my new winter ride, and hope it opens up a little more before the snow hits.

I don't mean to sound like a dick, why are you asking questions like ." But with my car only having 150 k on it... does anyone know if this is bad, since my engine is not even broken in yet?" when you have a 3.8 gen coupe turbo'd. you would know all about break in and how to take care of your motor if you've ventured far enough to turbo a 3.8

Personally, I don't think that the hesitation goes away in time, but more like people get use to the hesitation and think it's gone. Mine is still there like day one and my car has 15k miles. So far the only thing that truly seems to resolve the hesitation is a tuned ecu from reading through a couple of those ecu threads.

I agree. Nearly all the time the car drives just fine, but every now and again I'll get a little bout of surging .. then it goes away again. All the 'fixes' everyone talks about seem to work for a while, but the car relearns.
Higher grade fuel seems to keep the surging at bay .. most of the time

I'm with silverarrow. I have 10k miles now and has had this pulsing/surging/hesitation problem from day one and still does it pretty much every day. I have solo exhaust, cai, and fmic for engine mods and it still does it. Not sure if I've just gotten used to it but does seem like it's gotten SLIGHTLY better. Lol some people are leaning to the waste gate I think a good retune is the real remedy as I'm sure Hyundai has these things barely sipping gas to meet the mpg they are stating with these cars.

Only time my car feels like crap when i start her up and dont let her warm up...
And when that happens it feels like i dont have a turbo..
But other than that i feel no hesitation whenever i hit the gas car always responds with a nice tug...
1150 on the ODO

I try to warm her up but with my wife losing her licesne due to a speeding ticket i am in a constant rush the only time i can really warm her up before driving her is before i go to work
other than that its turn on and go alot of the times.

With an intake & torkme pipe the lag is pretty much gone...I noticed that my car is running better each day now since it is finally getting used to the new SRI.

Also, don't forget about the clutch switch mod. I have a switch in on the fuse panel cover so when I want more aggressive throttle response and quicker shifts I can just flip the switch. It is a huge difference. Definitely changes the feel of the car more than the Tork pipe (I still recommend the Tork pipe also). It took >1000 mi for my car to pull smooth at various throttle settings. The ECU needs to tune its fuel, ignition, boost, etc maps based on the sensors, and they tune really slow so it doesn't screw up.

I concur. I have an auto and my wife's Forester feels quicker off the line. I just hit 20k miles on mine and both the surging and hesitation are still there. First I did the magnet removal, no change. Then I added an Injen SRI. That helped the power in the mid to upper range a little, but the low rpm hesitation got even worse. I'm waiting to put the Torkme pipe in to see if that helps. After that exhaust...and if that doesnt help, screw it. I'm hesitant to do a tune because I want to run regular and dont want any warranty issues. But I think thats probably the key with this car.

The SRI and Exhaust didn't alleviate the surging / hesitation.. it reduced it. But it was still there.

You know what did tho.. the TorkPipe /and or / Aluminum Inter-cooler pipe mod.. which ever you choose to use. THAT removed the surging / flat spots / hesitation.

I mean its 20 bucks... buy it. Then be done talking about all this surging hesitation non-sense! :p I feel like we keep talking about the same issues month after month...

NOTE: I did have a canned SFR tune which I returned. Looking back, I wish I had just grabbed the torkpipe instead of dropping 780.00 on a tune that seemed to continually have issues with cruddy gas millage. Then having to go through the hassle of returning it. I'm more then content with my car for now. Ill wait for "other" tuning options before I go down that road again.

Geez, I think someone needs to check the settings of my ECU. At the moment, everything on my VT is completely stock, I have a box of ad on's once Turbo has all the bugs worked out on his tune, but I've never experienced any of the lag or hesitation everyone seems to be experiencing, which I thought the dual spool was supose to eliminate. I can honestly say there ain't a damn thing wrong with my car. It starts perfectly, no hesitation in stop and goes in traffic fine. Rides and handles perfectly and has little things my wife and I keep finding to make driving easier. Since having surgery, my wife is the primary driver. She drives the VT like she stole it every place we go. She loves that Turbo :) That's my Honey; none the less, no troubles at all. I hope it stays that way once the tune and mods are added! Florida needs an Autobaun toll rode Noth to South!

I agree, I had no lad or anything till I started bolt ons. I think the more you bolt on the more you will need a tune, I can tell there's a lot more power, but it needs to be tuned to perfection! the downpipe was by far the biggest difference and made a lot more things like lag and shifting revs way different.

Dont forget that after you install the new mods to reset your ECU (just unplug the battery for 15 min or so) so it can start the learning curve with your new mods installed. The Tork pipe is highly recommended for removing the lag. I just put mine on today and can tell you that it finally feels like it wants to go, before it felt like the car was complaining when I stomp the gas. hope this helps
